Uh, Uzbekistan?
Ted Rall did a show called "Stanwatch," and here you were supposed to name all of the "stan" countries (remember, this is pre-9-11…he figured out we needed to pay attention to the middle east long before we did). I could only name three. And he said one of them wasn’t technically a country.

which were your three? have you seen the "stan" new yorker cover, angela? it is my all time favorite new yorker cover and you can get it as a shower curtain. which i keep meaning to do. one of my friends lived in tajikistan. the "ik" part, i found out, is pronounced like ick and not eek, which, i must admit, disappointed me.
