I'm pretty sure it's closed to the public. Dec 2003 we got a doozy of an earthquake that did this mission in. On the other hand, the quake was centered very close to Hearst Castle (and one of the slo flickr'rs - dishpantheism - was there for it) and the castle suffered no damage at all. Other buildings, like this one were not as lucky.
The quake was the same size as the one that hit Bam, Iran just a few days later, but only two died in ours. Building codes in action. But this mission was (obviously) built before the codes. It was grandfatherserra'd in.
