Angel of Mercy
I took this a few Decembers ago in New Jersey when my grandmother was dying…it’s in the cemetery of the town she lived in. It’s a very old cemetery and has always fascinated me. Anyway, I gave this shot to her as a present, just before she died. I was trying to show there can be comfort and stabilty even when the rest of world can be shifting around you.

Great image! NJ is filled with the most wonderful, ancient and often obscure cemeteries. We've walked them in cities and have found them deep in forests and love to "read" the stones. This lady's actually an angel of mercy. With wings raised, she holds a palm frond; the symbol of peace and the 'spiritual victory over death'. "Ressurection" might have appeared more certain had the NJ winters not claimed her right thumb and index finger pointing skyward...
