Possibilities
I had a job interview today, sorta-kinda. I gave my card to a guy in town who opened a little computer shop down the street from me maybe six months ago in hopes he was hiring. Sadly he was not, but he seemed quite nice and I hoped he would hold onto my card in the event he ever was. Evidently he did, and yesterday he sent me an email to see if I wanted to talk.
“OHMYGOD, YES, PLEASE,” was my initial reaction but I settled on something a little more civilized and a little less desperate in my reply.
Side note: business has been okay, I have about what I can handle. Still the idea of a steady paycheck is tantalizing.
So we decided to meet at one of my favorite coffeehouses. Over the next two hours we discussed everything from chipsets and nightmare clients to religion and politics. Photography too—for some reason computer nerds are usually into photography. I have no idea why. Turns out we have remarkably similar philosophies when it comes to a lot of things, and though he admitted he still didn’t have any money to really “hire” me, he wanted to see what I was up to and if I was up for something resembling more of a partnership. Well, occasional dealing with stuff he couldn’t get to to start off with.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but even if nothing happens it was nice to have an extended geek talk about computers because so far the only other person I am able to chitchat about tech with is my hairdresser, another guy and former silicon valley slave. Which reminds me, I need to call him…my hair is pissing me off again.
Update on my sister’s nose: she has some smell back. She says it’s not what it was, but at least she can smell something.
