Walking Dead

tired4.jpgSo let me begin with a totally original blog opener: sorry for the lack of updates. For the last month or two I’ve been dealing with severe fatigue. It started when I went on birth control pills, and even though I ditched them weeks ago, the crushing fatigue is still with me. I tested negative for anemia, and a thyroid test yesterday came back normal. It’s not blood sugar-related, because the sheer weight of this feels different, and I feel like I’m in a fog from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed. I don’t think it’s depression, because it came on all of a sudden during the third or fourth week of taking those damned pills–I was fine before that.

If there is any pattern to it I can’t see it. On any given day I could either feel fine and pretty much functional, or I could feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. Though lately even on a “good” day I am hardly the picture of high energy. I never know what I’m going to get and that’s the frustrating thing…though fortunately there are no other weird symptoms…no joint pain or migraines or stiff like that.

Needless to say I am not exactly supermom when this thing hits. Which makes me feel guilty and angry on top of feeling like a lobotomy patient. If only I could drink coffee again. Oh God. If only.

So what’s going on? I have no idea. I guess I am left with some vague hormonal disturbance that will never be named and will hopefully GO AWAY, or CFS. The idea that it could be CFS terrifies me. But hey, the idea that I might have IC frightened me also, and here we are.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I know this sounds crazy, but I had the exact same symptoms and it turned out to be a gluten-sensitivity. For me, eating gluten = EXTREME fatigue. As soon as we removed the gluten from my diet, my energy came back…. In the meantime, you may also want to try taking liquid chlorophyll to help boost energy (my doctor suggested I take it and the mint-chlorophyll variety tastes just fine). I’ve found that works great as well.
