Microsoft: Go Ahead and Be Evil

From Scot’s Newsletter:

“Fair warning to all you dyed-in-the-wool Windows wonks: I’m having visions of jumping ship…if it stops being fun using Windows (if it feels like the taxi meter is running all the time, for example), I might switch. Microsoft appears to be bound and determined to wipe the grins off our faces, to take away the joy of Free Computing. I swear, Microsoft is the new IBM circa 1983.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Perhaps you’ve heard the rumors about Microsoft getting ready to flip the “kill switch.” Of course, there are ways to disable the WGA notification, but why IS Microsoft so intent on alientating everybody? I am running a legal copy and yet I got one of their lovely little notices that my OS wasn’t “genuine”…so can I expect my whole system to die in a few weeks? Who the fuck knows? They won’t say what they’re up to. But they refuse to deny the rumors about the “kill switch” thing.

It’s funny…if Google’s motto is “Don’t be Evil,” Microsoft’s seems to be “Be As Evil As Possible.”
