Fingers Crossed for California
I really hope this passes this week.
Update: sighhhh…no, of course not. We can’t even manage to pass bonds to keep our pathetic libraries running. LAME, people–very lame.

I have to say now that the election is over I had some trepidation about 82, though I know there are populations who desperately need good preschool. This is from the perspective of my son just finishing kindergarten. I’d hate to see four year olds caught up wholesale in the test-obsessed factory that is now public education. Our highly trained, well qualified kindergarten teachers are regularly asked to push five year olds beyond what they know is developmentally appropriate, and I’m afraid the temptation would be great to do they same for pre-k. Even at our very cool charter school Daniel had to do enough repetitive worksheets to kill an entire forest. I’d rather see something targeted to bolster Head Start (Daniel went to a great summer Head Start last year thanks to First Five)
