WWYT?

If you had just 12 to 24 hours notice of a coming disaster and you were forced to evacuate, what would you take with you? I’ve been thinking about this, and will post my own list later.

Update - My list

We’ll take the husband and kids as a given
Sylvia
Backup hard drive
Photo CD binder
Early photo albums
Baby journal and the boxes in my nighttable of baby stuff (hand casts, birth certificates, etc.)
Some of the girls favorite stuffed animals and few changes of clothes
B’s novel draft
Wallet and address book
iPod
Keys can
If I could fit it, possibly the left drawer of my desk with boring but important financial papers
And if the RV was here, throw everything in there and leave in that

Interesting that a lot of us listed our iPods :)

well, since i am a recent college grad with no kids or pets, this is pretty easy.

ALL cds
all the expensive clothes and shoes, so i could sell them for food ;)
iPod
phone, with car charger
my car keys, of course
and all the friends i could stick in there with me

pictures and the puter would probably be “must takes” for me. anything else would be extra.

Cat
Computer
Cell Phone
My ColdfusionMX book that is heavy I could use it for self defence if needed.
And the boyfriend…he’s good for lifting heavy things…like above mentioned book. :)

I’d take of course my husband, children, pets and personal papers/documents, along with pictures on CD that we have packed and ready to go if we could get to them. That’s it. Everything else can be replaced.

Fam and pets, of course.
All the stuff from the camping shelves in the garage.
Photos and important docs. (and photos of stuff left behind for insurance proof)
Son’s favorite toys for comfort & entertainment
Hard drives & cameras (small car, couldn’t take all the geek toys)
Some clothes, snacks and water.

we have all of the negatives of our family photos organized in one place, so i would take those.

kids blankies and my son’s stuffed dog, Friend.

cell phone

bottled water

cell phone, computer, bottled water, dog, husband, iPod, and books. Definitely books so I can escape reality and keep my sanity.

Pretty boring. I don’t have a lot that holds much sentimental value…. yet.

Interesting question… and I think my answer might change based on the type of evacuation happening. But in the case of a hurricane/flood scenerio:

1) Wife
2) all 4 cats
3) My computer (just the tower with all my data–no monitors or external junk–so I could save my data/photos/music/etc)
4) waterproof/water resistant clothing and shelter
5) …

This is where it gets tough. We have a number of sentimental paintings, sculptures, and objects around the house which I would love to take but would probably not be able to. I guess this is where I go into a tangent about why tattoos are a good investment–because in the case of something like this, you take all your unique artwork with you without any hassle. I am sure that the thousands I have spent on artwork for my home would be left behind, yet the thousands I have spent on body art would be right there with me through thick and thin.
