Because I’m Not Broke Enough

Yes, yes, I know I keep promising the “Why I Fucking Hate Orange County” rant. My mousing arm has been doing nothing but wiping noses the last few days, so it’s been slow.

In the meantime, I could use some help…very soon I need to decide which photos to use for a showing in SLO. A local restaurant has agreed to hang a bunch of my photos (they haven’t told me how many yet, but I’m guessing somewhere between 6 and 8), and I need to pick three to five photos to frame–in addition to the three I already have framed–for this project. I want to pick the right ones because the framing and matting is going to be v-e-r-y expensive.

So…this, this and this one are already done, I just need three to five more choices.

Here are the contenders.

I prefer your B+W pics, except for the color one with the single pier pole (?) covered in barnacles.

In no particular order I liked, (Actually then I put them in order)

1. Girls on bench

4. single girl on bench
7. tea with knitting
6. truck

I’ve been a fan of your photos and site for quite some time. I honestly can’t pick any. Just pick your favs. You can’t go wrong……..

I love your stuff and think you’ve got a great eye. I prefer your photos unadulterated (or converted to b+w), because I don’t go for Photoshop trickery so much. Three I’d definitely go for are

PC250162b (though I think the horizon could do with a 1.97° CCW rotate. I know it has a quirky charm on the slant, but people who make judgements on photos in magazines always pick on that kind of thing)

The Knitting, too, because of the teapot: food related stuff (like the pumpkins) should go down well in an eatery (though maybe not sides of beef hanging up in a coldstore!).

3. lookslikewinxp…..because it’s one of the few pictures I’ve ever seen that actually captures the beauty of a place……I’ve seen that beauty in your area and thats a fabulous pic.

angela! they are splendid.

I too like the ones without enhancing if I had to state a preference. The pier one might be my very favorite and one I’d buy myself. If that’s the Pismo pier, then Pismo has never looked so lovely.

In the interest of full disclosure, there is not a single pic there that has not been messed with in Photoshop. Even the pier closeup had an infared filter applied. ;)

But there are degrees of Photoshoppery. I run all mine through Photoshop or Elements - to adjust levels, crop, convert to black and white, or simply to compensate for forthcoming JPEG compression on Flickr - but I still prefer a photo to be about itself and not what has been done to it.
