Sideways

I feel like we got away with murder. For the first time ever, someone else besides ME or MY HUSBAND put the girls to bed tonight, while we went to go see a movie. The wonderful Miss C came over and did the job, and it went fine!

The bedtime problem is why we rarely go to movies…they all start way before their bedtime (entertaining and keeping track of twin toddlers for two hours straight is harder than you think and not something I’m ready to hand to babysitters yet), or get out way too late (making it verrrrry hard to get up with them the next morning). But maybe now we can enjoy a little cultural entertainment like the rest of the world. Woo hoo!

We saw Sideways, at a theatre we’d never been to before (the tiny but impressive Fair Oaks). The movie was awesome! Go see it, if for no other reason than to get an up-close look at California’s gorgeous central coast that I love so much. Many familiar scenes, and some good belly-laughs, too. After seeing it I was half-tempted to go get tipsy on some good wine. Not that I know what “good” is. All I know is I love my port wine, and even then it mostly serves as a sleeping pill. Oh yes, and the website for the movie is splendid also; I love the whimsical feel of it. Check it out.

One of the more interesting parts for Bruce was seeing the publishing industry portrayed so realistically. Getting published is harder than ever. Bruce has obviously been in Miles’ shoes, in fact I’m afraid I’ve kind of lost track of where his books stand with his agents lately.

Vineyards and wineries are ripe (ha ha…okay, I’m tired…) places for photo-taking. Some of my very first pictures posted to Flickr were of the Talley Vineyard.

If you design websites and are running Firefox, you definitely want the web developer extension. If you have broadband, try the tweak network settings extension. It noticeably speeded up things for me.

I walked out of Sideways feeling so good for Miles. Then, last night, in the middle of the night, I woke up thinking, “Wait! What kind of sleaze-ball steals from his mother? How could I forget about that? He’d better not pull any weird shit on that nice Maya.”

That’s so funny…that’s EXACTLY what I thought later too!

congratulations on your night out!
